Away from the hustle and bustle of Carmel during Car Week, Laguna Seca plays host to the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and this year’s big feature was a celebration of IROC – the International Race Of Champions. The series was the brainchild of businessman and motorsports legend Roger Penske. It was an automotive all-star event with the top drivers of the day competing in identical machinery. Run between 1974 and 2006, all seven generations of IROC cars ran together for the first time at Laguna Seca last weekend, driven by a host of legendary drivers including Jeff Gordon, Danny Sullivan, Scott Pruett, Jenson Button and Dario Franchitti. Endurance classes were also heavily featured with IMSA, ALMS and Group C all represented. From early 70’s 911RSR’s to 2014 Audi R8’s three separate races covered all the classic eras of long distance racing.

With practice and qualifying on Wednesday / Thursday plus thirteen races each day on Friday and Saturday this was a huge meeting with an astonishing amount of activity for spectators to take in. Other classes included 20’s – 50’s Grand Prix cars, 50’s and 60’s saloons, 60’s sports racers and Historic F1 amongst many others.
