Last weekend we enjoyed a great couple of days in the Cheshire countryside as the traditional Gold Cup meeting took place at Oulton Park. Some of the highlight features this year included a celebration of BRM, with a fabulous collection of cars in attendance – see above – plus some of the team’s original drivers, as well as a celebration of 60 years of local heroes Chevron who were well represented in the Guard’s Trophy for sportscars as well as the historic F3 field. Rather fittingly the Gold Cup itself, this year run for historic F1 cars, was won by the BRM P48 driven by Andy Willis.
Away from the track, the Cheshire Concours d’Esprit attracted a fine selection of cars from the 1920’s to the 1970’s, with the top prize going to a stunning Ferrari 246 Dino. Crowds this year seemed to be up and the full public car parks would suggest that the appetite for old cars and classic racing is still strong.
