A weekend of beautiful weather once again made Hampton Court Concours of Elegance a wonderful event to be part of, made all the better by giving us the opportunity to catch up with some old friends from all over the world. Centrepiece of our stand was the fantastic 1987 Lamborghini Countach Quattrovalvole which generated a huge amount of interest across the weekend, especially with younger visitors. The number of people who commented that they had the Athena poster of the car on their bedroom wall was astonishing.
We were very proud when our 1980 Ferrari 308GTB was chosen to receive an award and got the chance to cross the stage. This eye catching ‘Verde Medio’ example almost overshadowed the Countach with the amount of attention it received and proves that an unusual specification really makes a car stand out from the crowd.
From the reaction it received on our stand the 1956 Porsche 356 Speedster was the undoubted winner of the ‘ladies choice’ vote over the weekend. There is definitely something uniquely appealing about the timeless image of the Speedster that still resonates after all this time and despite the supposed decline in popularity of 1950’s cars. Clearly, true style never goes out of fashion.
Away from our own stand the quality of cars in the concours was once again outstanding with top prize being awarded, by fellow owners, to the 1926 Rolls Royce Phantom I ‘The Phantom of Love’. My personal choice would have been a beautiful black BMW 507 closely followed by the Aston Martin DB3S coupe. Hampton Court is definitely an event for true car lovers and one that should be on the list for any enthiusiast.
